Alabama Bantam Club
History
The Alabama Bantam Club was formed in 1966 by 4 men, E.L. Cole, Sam Davenport, Harold Dobbs and Earl Adair. The home site was Birmingham, Alabama. In September 1967 the club joined the American Bantam Association and in February 1968 had their first public show. Mr. Sam Davenport was a license judge of the ABA. Soon after the start of the club it grew adding members, S.G. Hamilton, Tommy Smith, Gilbert Cash and Frank and Phillip Sizemore. Later in years Phillip Sizemore and E.L. Cole also became ABA license judges.
The Alabama State Fair Grounds in Birmingham, Alabama was the home site for the club show, the group along with the Alabama Rabbit Association petition the Alabama State Agriculture and in the early 1970s the Poultry and Rabbit building was built. The Alabama Bantam Club hosted shows at the Birmingham facility for many years including hosting the 1980 ABA National and the 19 Semi-Annual. Shows in Birmingham ranged from 1000 birds to several 2400 birds shows.
In the mid 1990s the club was forced to find a new home, the demise of the Alabama State Fair Grounds in Birmingham left us hopping to have another chance to have a show. Lucky for us we had great members and a search went out immediately, it was not long until we had secured a place in Clanton, Alabama. The first couple of years we hosted our shows in the National Guard building and then agreements were made and then moved to the Chilton County Fair Grounds.
We are now located in the Cattle Barn of the old Fair Grounds. We can house around 1000 birds single decked, there is plenty of room for parking and sale birds.
